Aloha and mahalo nui loa for visiting our website. Our San Diego based outrigger canoe club (hui) is moving full speed ahead with positive energy and enthusiasm towards wonderful causes and equally wonderful canoe time! If you are interested in supporting us and our efforts, we'd love to share our sport, our story, and most importantly, our aloha with you!

September 6-7, 2014 - Catalina US Champsionships 9-man race. One wahine crew and one co-ed crew paddled from Newport Dunes to Avalon, Catalina Island on Saturday. Two kane crews paddled back on Sunday. Epic race!! Congrats to our Open Co-ed crew for their 3rd place win! More photos in our Gallery!
September 30, 2014 - Queen Lili'uokalani Outrigger Canoe Race in Kona, HI. The world's largest long distance canoe race. We have several wahine paddling and mixing it up with other crews at this inspiring race. More photos in our Gallery!

August 17, 2014 - We had some dedicated paddlers volunteering at the Luau and Legends of Surfing Invitational, an event to raise funds for UCSD Moore's Cancer Cener. Each year the Rell Sunn Award is "Established in 1998 to honor the memory of Rell Sunn, the "Queen of Makaha," this perpetual trophy is awarded each year to the person who displays the qualities shared by Rell and the Moores UC San Diego Cancer Center Luau & Legend of Surfing Invitational – who has made a difference in the battle against cancer and embodies the aloha spirit." April 9, 2014 - We teamed up with Kanaka OCC to introduce outrigger paddling, and other great waterman sports, to Point Loma High School Surf Team. It's about the kids!
April 5, 2014 - What an amazing day on the water. We are honored to have been part of the first OC-6 canoes racing at the Olympic Training Center here in San Diego. A BIG mahalo to San Diego Canoe Kayak SUP Team for having us at the Silver Blade Regatta. Great job USA Outrigger on a wonderful day as well. Fly Ama Fly!

October 2013 - Moloka'i Hoe kane crew seeing the finish line in sight! First time Kapolioka'ehukai represented in this magnificent crossing.
October 2013 - Several Kapolioka'ehukai members participated in the Run to Fight Children's Cancer which helps "to create awareness in the community for childhood cancer while also providing support to the families and children affected by the disease."
September 2013 - Our club's first Hawai'i race! Queen Lili'uokalani Race in Kona – We were honored to have been able to compete in the world's largest long distance outrigger canoe. Both kane and wahine crews finished strong and enjoyed paddling in Hawaiian waters. Also with great pride competing in our first ever double hull race.
August 2013 - SCORA 9-man Season. These long distance races use nine-person crews for the six-person canoes. Paddlers jump out while other paddlers jump in to the moving canoe. We started strong and finished stronger and enjoyed our second year at the U.S. 9-man Championships at Catalina Island.
August 2013 - Kapolioka'ehukai members volunteering at Survivor Beach and the Luau and Longboard Invitational. These events, put on by UCSD Cancer Center, help raise money and awareness for cancer research. The Rell Sunn Award "is awarded each year to the person who displays the qualities shared by Rell and the Moores UCSD Cancer Center Luau & Longboard Invitational - who has made a difference in the battle against cancer and embodies the aloha spirit."
27th Annual Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp - Kapolioka'ehukai was there representing and being human seatbelts, kids of all ages enjoyed the outrigger canoes!!
July 2013 - SCORA Sprint Season. Kapolioka'ehukai entered kane, wahine, and keiki in these races as well.

May - June 2013 - SCORA Iron Race Season. Our kane, wahine, and keiki competed in these epic races all over Southern California. Our Novice Wahine were undefeated!!!
September 11, 2012 - Our canoe club completed its SCORA racing season this past weekend with its greatest challenge met, the Catalina Crossing. Saturday our co-ed 9man crew raced 28 miles to Avalon, Catalina. Sunday morning our men's 9man crew raced 31 miles back to Newport Dunes. Congratulations to everyone. This race followed wonderful 9man races in Dana and Oceanside in August.
July 16, 2012 - We had our first sprint race of the season in Long Beach. Our wahine and keiki paddlers did great! The race was hosted by Imua Outrigger, and named in honor of Uncle Noah Kalama, who has selflessly perpetuated the aloha spirit, this amazing sport and the paddling culture to all the clubs in Southern California. Mahalo to all those that came up to support and cheer for us this weekend. What a fun day! Check out a few more picts!
July 3, 2012 - This past weekend we entered 5 races at the Iron Champs race in San Diego, CA. It marked the conclusion of our long distance season. Now we shift gears to sprints and 9-man races.
We were joined by the Sunn ohana for the day as they were able to meet all of their extended paddling ohana here at Kapolioka'ehukai and enjoy good food and paddling time. A very very special day for all of us.
It also marked our first "Menehune o Ke Kai" program. Kids who brought a piece of trash to our tent signed a poster and were given a Heart of the Sea button to show they helped care for our beaches!
June 10, 2012 - Kapolioka'ehukai volunteered at Survivor Beach. Helping break the world record for consecutive surfboards, nose-to-tail, our paddlers brought over 20 surfboards, helped carry boards for others from their cars, as well as help with event setup. Put on by the UCSD Cancer Center, in coordination with the Luau & Longboard Invitational event which will take place in August to help raise money for cancer research. Each year they award the Rell Sunn Award to the person "who best embody the true aloha spirit and display the qualities shared by Rell and the Luau & Longboard Invitational – the battle against cancer, combined with unselfishness, compassion and a dedication to helping others."
June 2, 2012 - Our month of June has barely started and the wonderful milestones continue. Big congratulations to the keiki of our club for competing at Marina Del Rey in their first mini-iron race. You all did great! Hats off to all the adult teams as well including the Men's Novice who competed at Marina Del Rey Short course and brought home awards, 1st in their divisions respectively! Way to paddle with purpose!
May 2012 - What a great month! We completed our first keiki regatta (Keiki Heihei Waʻa) and first SCORA race of the season (Crystal Pier)! All the paddlers gave everything they had out on the water and represented so wonderfully. The race season is just getting started as we will now be heading to Santa Barbara, Marina Del Rey, Ventura, Avila and back to San Diego in the next two months for our Iron (long distance season)!
February 2012 - We are excited to start the 2012 OC6 paddling season for men, women, co-ed and keiki (children)! After getting our two canoes prepped and painted, it is time to enjoy them on the water. Thank you to all the great clubs, companies, groups and individuals who have helped support us. Now its time to paddle! IMUA!
October 2011 - Thanks to everyone who came out for the Annual Mission Bay Paddle for a Cure. We had paddlers racing for a great cause!
